Oster CKSTWFBF22-ECO DuraCeramic Flip Waffle Maker, Stainless Steel

Superb!
I have a VillaWare 2-square Belgian waffle, so my comparison is to that one, which is very fine but high priced.

Here's what I found:
Parts. The flip unit does not detach from the base. There is a removable drip tray that fits under it, not shown in the photo here, and I highly recommend using it, because we all know what cooking waffles is like. Even if the batter doesn't run over, the oil might.

Cleaning. I cleaned it before use by wiping with damp paper towel, heating it, brushing it with Crisco shortening, and then cooling it and wiping with a dry paper towel. I highly recommend this because the non-stick ceramic coating inside really smells of chemistry in action. Once heated and oiled this way, the smell is completely gone and it felt safe to use. After making two very fine waffles, the only cleaning needed seems to be 1) the drip tray needs a light hand wash with soapy water, and 2) wipe the waffle iron with a dry paper towel after cooling...

Makes Huge Awesome Crispy Waffles
I have a GE waffle maker that makes the standard smaller hole waffles. It does not have a temperature setting, so it is hard for me to make crispy ones. This unit has a dial right on the unit to let you set how well done you want your waffle. I crank it all the way to high and get a nice crispy one that stays crispy with butter and syrup(for a while at least). It's easy to use and the nonstick really is nonstick. Making my second waffle I forgot to spray it again but nothing stuck to the unit. I am very happy with this waffle maker. It makes great waffles and is easy to clean.

Notes:
- Really is nonstick
- Lets you adjust the temperature for how well done your waffle is
- Read and Green lights let you know when it is done.
- Heats up fast, cooks pretty fast.
- Does have fumes upon first use but this is true of most units.
- Great Value for the price.

So Far I'm Not Thrilled.
This is the first waffle maker I've ever owned, which could explain why I'm not as thrilled with it as some users are. Maybe you need to have owned a really lousy waffle maker in order for this one to feel like a step up.

Before your first use, it's a good idea to let this waffle maker get hot and stay that way for awhile to burn off the noxious fumes. I plugged mine in out on the patio and let it sit there for over an hour before bringing it inside to make waffles. Even then I had to throw away the first few waffles, because they tasted and smelled like burned plastic. The instructions say this is normal.

As for the waffles themselves, I couldn't get them crispy, even at the highest setting. If you like fruit in your waffle batter, this waffle maker will leave you with steamed waffles that are soft and a bit doughy in the places where the fruit settles. I will experiment with other waffle recipes to see if I can get better results.

The ready lights...
