Honeywell MF08CESWW 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote Control - White

quiet portable air conditioner
Honeywell seems to provide a range of reasonably priced and reliable portable air conditioners, based upon my research and experience. However, there are some important points to consider before making a purchase.

I think most consumers are tempted buy the cheapest air conditioner model rather than one that will really do the job, since even the cheapest air conditioners are painfully expensive! As with any other product, differentiating between models can be confusing (in this case, BTU ratings in particular are not something most people really understand), and product claims are often somewhat exaggerated (e.g., the sports car maker claims you can fit two passengers in a tiny backseat-- while technically this might be possible, the experience will not be pleasant for those who draw the short straws). Similarly, while this 8,000 BTU unit does cool 300 square feet, most people will feel that it does not cool as quickly or effectively (in other words, to a low enough...

Really powerful cooling and efficient
Some people have the opinion that Portable Air Conditioners are not efficient and will cost more to operate than a Central Air conditioner. In my opinion, each case is different and there is no hard fast general rule.

I have a Central Air Conditioner but I also have portable air conditioners. I store them in my Garage until they are needed. I probably only use my Central AC 6 days in the entire year. I also use these Portable AC units for only about 2 months in a year since I live in LA. When I turn on my central AC I see that it consumes 4.5 kWh on the average. This 8K BTU uses around 0.8 kWh on the average. So the trick is to get as much cooling out of that 8k BTU.

I have 5 portable ACs in my home. I have 2 Honeywells, 1 LG and 1 Edgestar and 1 large Dual hose Whynter. I happen to think that they all perform very well and are very efficient if you spend some time planning the installation.

You need to install the hose and window adapter...

Disappointed.
The unit does not cool the room, the 5000 btu window unit that this portable replaced was more effective at cooling my small room. Another drawback is the loovers that direct the airflow only allow for side to side adjustment, but not for up and down. Buying this was a big mistake.
